Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for safeguards the health and safety of the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s community, domestic animals, and native wildlife by enforcing Tribal ordinances on tribal lands pertaining to animal control across the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Communities. The individual patrols the reservations, investigates complaints, captures and impounds stray or dangerous animals, relocates nuisance or injured wildlife, and oversees quarantine procedures for animal bites. The incumbent addresses incidents of neglect, abuse, aggressive animals, lost pets, and wildlife encroachment, promoting safe coexistence between people and animals. The role involves collaboration with tribal departments, veterinary professionals, and agencies to ensure humane animal handling, public education, and health protocols such as rabies prevention and vaccination programs. This person maintains records, prepares reports, and may provide testimony in hearings or court. This role supports community outreach, education, and enforcement efforts, fostering responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship throughout tribal reservations. High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. A minimum of one (1) year of animal control experience is required. Possession of an Animal Control Officer Certificate is preferred; or, the ability to obtain the Certificate within three (3) months after employment. Demonstrate proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. The incumbent must be able to understand and adhere to all safety requirements in the operation and use of tools, equipment and chemicals. Must be able to read and understand operational manuals of animal control equipment. Manual dexterity as well as excellent levels of physical ability is needed to work in areas of limited access, on ladders, high places, and in outdoors conditions. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and be able to travel to all Seminole Reservations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
