Job Description
This is a professional Tribe-wide management position within the Seminole Tribe of Florida (Tribe) Environmental Resources Department (ERD). The incumbent serves as the data analyst for the Water Quality Program, which includes co-managing the databases for the Tribal-wide water quality program. The Ecological Analyst collaborates with the Water Quality Program Manager and Ecological Data Science Supervisor to design and implement a remote sensing-based, long-term water quality monitoring and assessment program across reservations and tribal lands, including upstream and downstream basins, enabling the prediction and prevention of water quality challenges such as harmful algal blooms. The incumbent supports the Water Quality Program Manager and Ecological Data Science Supervisor with the analysis and interpretation of diverse and complex data sets, initiates the writing of comprehensive ecological status and restoration reports, and incorporates and synthesizes Tribal Ecological Knowledge (TEK). The Ecological Analyst collaborates with staff from the Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) to conduct Tribe-focused and ecologically relevant research; prepares analytical results for presentation; and develops a peer network among scientists working for other tribes to develop broad and deep collaborations across this peer network. A Master’s Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology, Restoration Ecology, or closely related field is required. A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrable professional experience that includes developing and administering an empirical, science-based environmental programmatic approach directed toward quantitatively assessing water quality, wetlands ecology, hydrology, ecological impact analysis, and ecosystem restoration is required. Must demonstration of excellent data management, and statistical and analytical skills is required. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Must demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages, GIS software, and other statistical data management packages. Must have the ability to travel to all Reservations and Tribally owned lands and be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, is a requirement of this position.
