Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting in all archaeological lab functions and provides expertise in human osteology and zooarchaeology for the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO). The individual assists with and participates in fieldwork, cemetery management, and provides expertise in zooarchaeological analysis. The Bioarcheologist ensures compliance with all THPO lab policies and procedures and may assist on off-reservation consultation. Additionally, this role actively engage in outreach activities with the Tribal Community. Master’s Degree in Bioarcheology, Physical Anthropology or closely related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years of sustained fieldwork or laboratory experience, or laboratory experience in all aspects of human osteology including the identification of human fragmentary remains, archaeological field techniques, laboratory analysis and interpretation is required. Demonstrate competence in the identification and analysis of zooarchaeological remains. The incumbent must conduct fieldwork in often physically demanding conditions Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Proficiency in GIS packages is highly preferred. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. The incumbent must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
